Big Island teens and adults are invited to be a part of recorded history. Punk rock history, that is.
Total Deniability Productions will offer up its monthly all-ages punk show on Jan. 29 at Shooters, but with a twist. Popular Big Island band Old Habits Die Hard will be recording the concert for their upcoming live CD and DVD release.
Tiger Stanley, creator of Total Deniability Productions, says "the TDP mission is to provide all-ages events in Hawai'i and give underground music a place to play whether it's bands or DJ's." With a rotating bill of local talent, TDP has been producing punk rock and metal shows since 2003, racking up over 250 events, fundraisers and parties. Stanley said, "Our audience is mostly teenagers, younger children with their folks, grandmothers and rocker people who are into that kind of music."
A live recording is a new undertaking for TDP. Puna Punk Records will be recording the music and Oasis Skate Co., will be videotaping for the accompanying DVD. According to Stanley, "This is the first live recording with TDP and OHDH. We've all been working together to help each other for years now. That's why we were chosen to do the recording, we've been their main promoters since they got started and have worked with Oasis Skate Co. as sponsors and done skate events for them too."
Old Habits Die Hard is made up of Lundy Kramer on guitar and vocals, brother Adam Kramer second guitar, Harley Aragon on bass and Matt Donnert on drums. Lundy Kramer says, "OHDH has been a band for close to three years and has already released two full length efforts, Hit The Ground Running in 2008 and Bloodshot Vision in 2009. We are readying for our third album but before that we wanted to make a live CD of select songs from our first two. We hope to capture the feel of our live performance energy along with the classic crowd participation our big island fans never fail to provide." The CD and DVD will be available on the bands Myspace page.
Although OHDH is usually the headliner at the monthly punk shows, newer acts like Scar Strangled Banter and hardcore thrash band Augustine will be opening this event. Stanley says Augustine is "the main metal band we've got on the island. They have been around for years now and are a very good band if you're into metal." TDP is working on getting popular O'ahu bands to come over to play at upcoming shows.
Bands interested in playing at future shows can contact Tiger Stanley at (808) 443-7973. "I've been doing this so long. I know most of the local bands and hear of new ones from my friends. I like to pick new bands for the opening two bands and more well-known bands to headline." For more info see http://www.myspace.com/totaldeniabilityproductions.
This all-ages live recorded concert takes place on Friday, Jan. 29 at Shooters on Banyan Drive. Doors open at -6 p.m. with a $5 cover charge. Security will be present to keep the kids safe
